Revolutionising the maritime industry through Maritime Accelerator

Maritime Accelerator is an accelerator program bringing together the leading players in maritime industry and the most innovative startups globally. The goal of the accelerator is to strengthen the Finnish maritime cluster to become the leading maritime ecosystem in Europe. Together with the partner corporations and global growth companies we are building a fertile ecosystem open for versatile companies and new concrete business ventures speeding the development of the industry.

When the mighty ones collaborate

Turku Business Region and Avanto Ventures started to build the accelerator with the help from Senior Advisor, M.Sc. Jukka Laiterä who has been in the industry for over 30 years. “We are looking to adopt innovative solutions from other industries to maritime field. Cruise ships have a lot in common with small cities. There are new technologies, platforms and solutions from energy and recycling, e.g. which we can use to evolve our own business.”, Laiterä comments.

Royal Caribbean, Meyer Turku and Wärtsilä are the current main partners of the accelerator focusing on five different themes: security, safety, sustainability, energy and logistics. Together these mighty players have endless possibilities to move the whole industry forward by utilising the startup ecosystem and it’s lean ways to innovate. Our aim is to find excellent startups for each partners and after three workshops continue piloting with the best ones. The pilot projects are introduced at Slush in December 2018.
