Writer-director JP Siili’s new film has began shooting. The comedy known as Sieniretki will be filmed over the summer in Turku and the Turku archipelago. The West Finland Film Commission has supported the production in various ways, such as finding suitable locations.
– The archipelago of the Gulf of Finland is the shared national treasure of all Finns, blinding in its beauty and stunning in its diversity, says director Siili. – I had dreamed about a film set in that landscape, so the opportunity to do this film there was a dream come true for me.
Embarking on the mushroom trip with Siili is a cast of the country’s A-list actors. The stars include Martti Suosalo and Ville Myllyrinne, with Satu Silvo, Minttu Mustakallio, Jaana Saarinen, Anu Sinisalo, Vesa Vierikko and Eero Ritala in additional roles.
The two stars Martti Suosalo and Ville Myllyrinne are all smiles as they describe how fun filming in Turku has been. Myllyrinne last filmed in Turku in 2018, and Suosalo has spent his early years in the city. – Turku is a city that’s dear to my heart. I was excited about coming back here, Suosalo says.
Sieniretki is the first movie from Aurora Studios, which has primarily been known as a distribution company. The producer is Severi Koivusalo. JP Siili’s Sepite Oy is co-producing. The executive producers include Petri Kemppainen, Roosa Toivonen and Ari Tolppanen from Aurora Films. Additionally, the film has also received support from the West Finland Film Commission
– We think it is really great that we get to work with Aurora Studios on the Sieniretki movie that is being filmed in the Turku archipelago. The film’s amazing cast is the cherry on top, says Film Commissioner Teija Raninen from Turku Science Park Ltd.
– The West Finland Film Commission has received us with open arms, and they have been an invaluable help to us, says producer Severi Koivusalo, thanking the West Finland Film Commission, which has assisted the production in finding locations, film professionals, assistants and service providers.
Sieniretki gets its theatrical release during the height of the mushroom season in 2022. The film premieres exclusively on the Elisa Viihde rental service and the Elisa Viihde Viaplay streaming service after its theater run concludes.
